2001 Barolo DOCG Riserva Pichemej, Piedmont, Italy

Preserved red berries on the nose, plums and some rum punch, jammy notes, sweetish, spicy tobacco, smoky oak. Tart oak and spicy tobacco on the palate, restrained preserved fruit, dusty, slightly astringent tannins, mineral and animal notes, fairly persistent, elegant acid bite, good finish.

Editor note: Firm nose with ripe, partly preserved red berries, floral notes with wilted flowers, tobacco and some mineral notes. Juicy and spicy, more prominent tobacco, quite fine, slightly astringent tannins, creamy on the palate, mineral and vegetal notes, good substance and concentration, medium depth, very well balanced, still quite youthful, good long finish.
