The Spanish winery "Bodegas Alejandro Fernández" is located in the municipality of Pesquera de Duero in the DO Ribera del Duero
, It was founded in 1972 by trained agricultural machinery technician Alejandro Fernández, who had acquired great fortune by inventing agricultural machinery for sugar beet. The vineyards cover 220 hectares of vineyards. The flagship of the house is "Pesquera de Duero" or "Pesquera" for short according to the same municipality. This counts beside the "Pingus" of the winery Dominio de Pingus
and the "Unico" of the winery Vega Sicilia
to the best and most expensive wines
Spain and the world. He was born in 1992 by Robert Parker
referred to as "Petrus of Spain" and thus suddenly world famous. The wine is vinified pure from the grape variety Tinta del País (Tempranillo), which is cultivated heavily yield limited.
After fermentation there is a two-week maceration, then malolactic fermentation in French or American oak barrels. After that, no beauty or filtration takes place. There are different qualities of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva, which differ in the age of the vines, the grape selection, the age of the barriques and the duration of the barrique (up to four years). A variant called "Reserva Janus" is produced only in special years (for example, 1986 and 1994) and is produced according to the classical method with complete grapes (without stalks). The winery "Condado de Haza" is still owned by Roa de Duero, where a varietal red wine Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) is produced. Alejandro Fernández is considered to be Vega Sicilia as a major pioneer of the modern Ribera del Duero wine style. The owner is also referred to as "Rey del Tempranillo" (King of Tempranillo).
