2001 Barolo DOCG Sorano, Piedmont, Italy

Firm, spicy nose, partly dried red and some black berries, plums, hint of mushrooms and undergrowth, some chocolate with chili, wilted flowers, hint of tobacco and prominent mineral notes. Concentrated and juicy on the palate, ripe, partly candied fruit, earthy and mineral notes, ondergrowth, some cep mushrooms and wilted leaves, prominent salty mineral and earthy notes, plenty of mature, mouthwatering tannins, some dried kumquat and prominent bergamot, persistent with good depth, good grip, fairly complex long finish, spicy again with mouthwatering Nebbiolo tannins. Slowly starting to open up, can probably still mature profitably for quite some time.
