2007 Langhe DOC Syrah Montalupa, Piedmont, Italy

Tart, spicy nose, preserved, ripe black and red berries, earthy and mineral notes, herbaceous notes, touch of partly dried bell peppers, some tobacco and old oak, pepper and cardamom, well-hung dark meat. Concentrated and very full-bodied on the palate, prominent peppery fruit, tart spicy notes, toasted and smoky notes, earthy and mineral notes, herbs and a hint of gravy stock, persistent, noticeable alcohol, mineral notes in the background, very slightly brittle oak, has some depth and shows its origin, very good, long finish. Very big nody, and thus a little strenuous, but also complex and interesting.
