2001 Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza DOC La Barslina, Piedmont, Italy

Partly preserved and dried black berries on the nose, dried herbs, smoky notes and some tar, light roasted notes and spicy oak. Clear, juicy dark fruit on the palate, smoky and roasted oak, refreshing acid bite, some carbon dioxide,fairly prominent original tannins, racy and gripping, persistent and has some depth, very well balanced, tart dried herbaceous and mineral notes, hint of oxidation, very good juicy finish with some bite to it.

Editor note: Preserved and partly dried black berries and cherries on the nose, red berries and plums, some tobacco, light roasted notes and spicy oak. Plenty of juicy, full-bodied and quite cool fruit on the palate, more spicy oak, roasted notes and cocoa, elegant acidity, delicate floral as well as some very slight oxidative notes, fairly prominent fine sandy tannins, firm structure, prominent bite, very good finish.
