2003 Barbera d'Asti DOC Vigna del Noce, Piedmont, Italy

Very firm, lively nose, preserved black berries and cherries, delicate hint of chocolate, tart dried herbs, some soup stock, mineral notes and a hint of citrus. Firm and quite juicy on the palate, clear fruit, noticeable acid bite, still has some carbon dioxide, candied herbaceous notes, hint of chocolate again, fine sandy, racy, original tannins, full-bodied and persistent, very creamy, also has cool notes, hint of citrus in the background, prominent mineral notes, good depth, cedary traces on a very good long finish. Tremendously refreshing in spite of its full body, because of its uncompromisingly unmodern style, totally dedicated to its origins.

Editor note: Firm nose, quite spicy, preserved and partly dried cherries and plums, berries, sweetish spice and mineral traces. Firm and juicy on the palate, lively acidity, touch of carbon dioxide, prominet but fine tannins, persistent, prominent bite, herbaceous notes, still appears youthful, very full-bodied, but not at all heavy, very good finish.
