The winery "Azienda Agricola Quaquarini Francesco" is located in the municipality of Monteveneroso, a suburb of Canneto Pavese (province of Pavia) in the Italian region of
Lombardy. It is owned by the third generation of the Quaquarini family, who have been involved in wine growing since the beginning of the 20th century. The farm is managed by the graduate
oenologist Umberto Quaquarini (production) and his sister Maria-Teresa (commercial, marketing, sales), who have kept their father's name in the estate name. The aim is to achieve a high standard of quality, among other things by participating in research programmes that cover the entire
winemaking process, including the testing of new production methods
The vineyards cover 60 hectares of vineyards on calcareous and clayey soils at 200 to 300 metres above sea level at the 45th latitude as well as
Bordeaux. The white wine varieties
Riesling, Pinot Grigio
(Pinot Gris) and Moscato
(Muscat Blanc), as well as the red wine varieties
Barbera,
Croatina, Pinot Nero
(Pinot Noir) and Ughetta di Canneto
(Vespolina) are cultivated and processed. The cultivation is carried out according to the rules of
organic viticulture certified by the Bioverband BIOS. The large product range includes various DOC/DOC wines
Oltrepò Pavese and
Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico
Among the premium wines are the red wine cuvée "
Buttafuoco Storico" (Croatina, Barbera, Ughetta di Canneto), bottled in a special Storico bottle with sail ship relief, as well as the "
Classese" in white and "
Cruasé" in rosé, made from 100% Pinot Noir by means of classic
bottle fermentation. Other products are the digestif "Buttafuoco
Chinato" (with
chinese bark, gentian and herbs added and sprinkled) and the "Grappa di Buttafuoco Storico". The winery is a member of the "Consortium di Tutela Vino dell'Oltrepò Pavese", as well as the "Distretto del Vino di Qualità Oltrepò Pavese" and the "Club del Buttafuoco Storico".
