2013 Barolo DOCG Bricco Manzoni, Piedmont, Italy

Deep, somewhat smoky, greasy, meaty and undergrowth nose of ripe, partly dried red and black berries with notes of licorice, eucalyptus and tar. Firmly knitted, tart, juicy, relatively dark fruit with dried vegetal, earthy, nutty and peppery tones, a little lovage and allspice, persistent on the palate, firm, fine-grained tannins, some warmth, fine acid bite, pomegranate and pickled cherries in the background, hinted at mustard seed and juniper, still very young, deep and lasting, pronounced polished style, very good to long, firm, juicy and spicy finish with soup herbs and a hint of cocoa.
