The winery "Rotweinbau Moritz" is located in the municipality of Horitschon in the Austrian DAC area of
Mittelburgenland. It was founded in the early 1960s. Alfred T. Moritz has been managing the winery since 2004. In his capacity as an artist (painter), he also organizes "kunst&keller events" at the house, which aim to combine modern, contemporary art with the art of winemaking. The vineyards cover 2.5 hectares of vineyards in the
Gfanger and
Hochäcker vineyards, which are planted exclusively with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch and Blauer Zweigelt. Since 2006, the vineyards have been cultivated according to the rules of
organic viticulture. This includes the renunciation of
fungicides,
herbicides and
insecticides, a well-ventilated foliage wall,
cover crop to encourage beneficial insects, and
humus build-up. The small size of the farm allows us to pay even more attention to each vine and each bottle of wine. The aim is to produce fruity, distinctive red wines with a strong
character of the terroir. Premium wines are the
Mittelburgenland DAC wines "Urknall" and "Perpedes" (Blaufränkisch), as well as the cuvée "barba.rossa" (Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt). Around 15,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, with felt labels designed and handmade by Alfred T. Moritz
