The Spanish DO area with around 7,600 hectares of vineyards is named after the place of the same name, the name comes from the Moorish "Al-Amankha" (dry place). The area belongs to the large region La Mancha, The vineyards are located 700 meters above sea level. Around half of the vineyard is covered with the red Monastrell, others are Cencibel (Tempranillo) and in small quantities Cabernet Sauvignon. The red wines make up 85% of the production, the white wines are made from Merseguera and Airén. Well-known producers are Coop. del Campo Santa Cruz and Bodegas Piqueras.

The red grape variety comes from France. There are over 80 Synonyms that testify to old age and worldwide distribution.
