Bodegas Bilbaínas winery is located in the town of Haro, in the heart of the Spanish Rioja sub-area Rioja Alta, It was founded in 1859 by the French wine company Savignon Frères & Cie. founded. It got its present name in 1901, when it was acquired by a group of entrepreneurs from the eponymous Bilbao. With the brand "Ederra Crianza" in 1925, the company became the royal court supplier. Finally, in 1997, the bodega of the Cava House Codorníu bought and subjected from the vineyards to the winery a major overhaul. Winemaking is the responsibility of oenologist José Hidalgo. The vineyards cover 256 hectares of vineyards, which are mainly planted with the Rioja standard varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and Mazuelo. There are 19,000 oak barrels for the expansion. The product range includes the brands "La Vicalanda", "Vendimia Especial", "Viña Pomal" and "Viña Zaco". Lovers of "Viña Pomal" were allegedly Winston Churchill (1874-1965) and Salvador Dali (1904-1989). It also produces a cava (sparkling wine) called "Royal Carlton". Every year around 200,000 boxes (2.4 million bottles) of wine are produced.
