2013 D.O.Ca Rioja MC, La Rioja, Spain

Tart nose, light oak, hint of tobacco, sour cherries and dark berries, peppery traces, some licorice, earthy traces, touch of soup greens. Fairly tart dark fruit on the palate, prominent oak, smoky and toasted notes, prominent nutty notes, light acid bite, fairly prominent tannins, still slightly astringent, tarry notes in the background, still rather austere and unapproachable, but gains depth and becomes more juicy with aeration, very good finish with still prominent spicy oak. Needs time to mature.
