Etwas schmelzig im Mund, zurückhaltende Frucht mit frischen vegetabilen Aromen, sehr feine Säure, ein Hauch Gerbstoff, gewisser Schmelz und etwas Alkoholwärme, eine Spur Salz, ordentlicher bis guter Abgang.
Named after the town of Rueda (Rad), the DO area is located northwest of Madrid in the heart of the Spanish region Castile and Leon, It was classified in 1980 as DO for then only white wines. Characteristic are the hot, dry summers and the cold long winters. The vineyards cover about 7,500 hectares of vineyards. The limestone-rich soil consists mostly of muddy alluvium, mixed with gravel terraces, which in addition to the continental climate with cold winters and short hot summers promotes the fruitiness and fresh acidity of the wines.
