The DO area named after the city of Rueda (bike) is located northwest of Madrid in the heart of the Spanish region Castile and Leon, In 1980 it was classified as a DO for only white wines at that time. The hot, dry summers and the cold long winters are characteristic. The vineyards cover around 7,500 hectares of vineyards.
