The "Bodegas Riojanas" winery is located in the municipality of Cenicero, 20 kilometers from Lograño in the center of the Spanish Rioja sub-area Rioja Alta
, It was founded in 1890 by the two families Artacho and Carreras, since 1933 it is the sole property of the family Artacho. Far-reaching improvements in cellars and vineyards were completed at great expense in 1990. Its own vineyards cover 300 hectares of vineyards, which are mainly planted with the varieties Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, Garnacha Tinta, Viura, Malvasia de Rioja and Cabernet Sauvignon. There are also grapes purchased. Every year around three million kilograms of grapes are processed. There are around 24,000 oak barrels for the expansion. Among others, the red wine brands Albina, Chanchales and Puerta Vieja (all from Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano), Monte Real (Tempranillo) and Peñamonte (Tinta de Toro = prototype of Tempranillo) are produced. Around 40% of production goes into export.
