2001 Toscana IGT "Casalferro", Tuscany, Italy

Prominent spicy oak on the nose, slightly sooty, preserved and partly dried black and red berries, spicy and nutty notes, hint of soup greens. Full-bodied and juicy on the palate, but also shows rather dominant oak, very ripe fruit, herbaceous traces in the background, fairly fine, predominantly stimulatingly astringent tannins, not too dry, very creamy, good persistence and has some depth, light acid bite, slightly sooty again on an otherwise very good finish. Significantly better, fresher and more complex than the first bottle.
