The cooperative winery (which only operates in South Tyrol under the name Kaltern winery) is located in the municipality of Kaltern (Caldaro) in the Italian wine sector South-Tirol (Region Trentino-Alto Adige ). It emerged from the merger of the originally four Kalterer cellar cooperatives. The Erste Kellerei and Neue Kellerei (founded in 1900 and 1925, respectively) had already merged to form Erste + Neue in 1986. In 1992 the farmer's winery merged with the anniversary winery (founded in 1906 and 1908) to form the Cantina Kaltern. The last step towards the joint winery took place in 2016. In the 1980s, rigorous measures to increase quality were carried out, for example reducing yields to an average of 75 hl / ha. Today, around 800 members cultivate a total of 480 hectares of vineyards in almost all locations on Lake Kaltern.

The vineyards are used by the members according to strict guidelines pruning. fertilization and (Harvest) processed. The Cantina Kaltern wine center, located directly on the South Tyrolean Wine Road, is a tasting room, gallery, event location and sales outlet. Here visitors can taste wines "365 days a year".
