2001 Barbera del Monferrato DOC Pierin, Piedmont, Italy

Clear, spicy, slightly nutty nose, old oak and herbaceous notes, chocolate, partly dried red and black berries, some cherries, prominent mineral notes. Ripe, clear, tart, fairly spicy but also juicy fruit on the palate, very slightly jammy, mature tannins, very elegant acidity, herbaceous and mineral notes, elegant grip, good substance and persistence, cedary traces, beautifully matured, harmonious and refreshing, very good finish. Has shown an excellent development, even improves further with aeration, is likely to remain in this peak condition in the bottle for some time. In the past, we have seriously underestimated this wine.
