2003 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Rungg, Alto Adige, Italy

Roasted notes and marzipan on the nose, prominent oak with spicy and light vegetal notes. Almost sweet in the mouth, rum punch and red wine liqueur notes, as well as some cinnamon and cloves, secondary oak aromas almost overpower the fruit, accessible and quite inviting in its own style, but not a lot of real substance and depth, integrated tannins, still slightly astringent, attractive finish. Improves with aeration as the oak is significantly toned down.
