DOC area (also Olevano Romano) for red wine in the Italian region of Lazio. The zone comprises the entire municipality of Olevano Romano and part of the municipality of Genazzano in the province of Roma. The wine is made Cesanese with the two varieties Cesanese di Affile and Cesanese Comune (90%) and other approved varieties (max. 10%). It will be expanded in secco, amabile and dolce. There is also a sweet one Frizzante, a stronger alcohol Superiore and a matured one Riserva, There are two other Cesanese areas Cesanese del Piglio (DOCG) and Cesanese di Affile (DOC).
The red grape variety comes from Italy, Synonyms are Bonvino Nero, Cesanese Comune, Cesanese di Affile, Cesanese Nostrano, Nero Ferrigno, Sanguinella and Uva di Affile. According to a non-verifiable hypothesis, it is said to be of ancient variety Alveola descended. The variety was created by the Italian agronomist Giovanni Soderini (1526-1596) mentioned under the name Cesenese, which was grown around Florence in Tuscany and in the Lazio region around Acerbi.
