The Tenuta di Capezzana estate is located in the municipality of Carmignano (province of Prato) in the Italian region Tuscany, A lease from 804 attests that 1200 years ago olive trees and vines were grown in Capezzana. The winery has a long and varied history with many owners. These included the ones with the Medici related family Cantucci, Marchesi Bourbon del Monte, Adimari Morelli, Franchetti Rothschild and finally since 1920 the Contini Bonacossi family. The oldest part of the building dates from the 15th century, the villa and the wine cellar from the 16th century. Beatrice Contini Bonacossi is the sales manager oenologist Franco Barnabei and as Winemaker Benedetta Contini Bonacossi.
The entire estate comprises a total of 650 hectares of land, including 140 hectares of olive groves and 70 hectares of vineyards. It will be the white varieties Trebbiano Toscano (an estate owned clone ) Chardonnay and San Colombano ( Verdea ), as well as the red wine varieties Sangiovese. Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc. Canaiolo Nero. Merlot and Syrah cultivated and processed. Management has been carried out for many years according to the rules certified by BIOAGRICERT Organic cultivation for wines and olive oils.
The house’s premium wines are the two DOCG red wines Carmignano "Villa di Capezzana" (80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon; aged 12 months in Tonneaufass and 12 months in the bottle) and (80% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet and 10% Canaiolo Nero; aged 16 months in a barrel and over a year in a bottle), as well as the IGT wine "Ghiaie della Furba" (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Syrah; expanded one year in , two years in the bottle). Around 350,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Around 55% are exported primarily to England, the USA, Germany and Canada. The winery is a member of the associations Donne del vino, Strada del vino and Movimento turismo del vino.
