2006 Barbera d'Asti DOC Superiore Ciresa, Piedmont, Italy

Tart, woody fragrance with notes of preserved mixed berries and earthy and dried vegetal notes. Vegetable fruit in the mouth, somewhat reminiscent of mixed pickles, slightly compote, bitterish wood tones, earthy notes on the palate, relatively dry tannin, some persistence, noticeable alcohol, but not too much depth, a little rustic, slightly blurred contours, neat finish.

Editor note: Fairly mature nose, preserved red berries and cherries, herbaceous notes and some cereals, old oak. The wine is developing quite quickly, and losing its contours.

Editor note: Initially reductive on the nose, with aeration some old oak, delicately mature red berries and cherries. Compact on the palate, straightforward style, slightly bitter red currant fruit on the palate, some plums and cherry pips, slightly tart, integrated tannins, has backbone and substance, good varietal character and shows its origins, slightly rustic style, very good finish.
