Fairly mature nose, prominent spicy oak, partly preserved black and red berries, prominent herbaceous and light spicy notes. Firm on the palate, ripe dark fruit, loads of toasted oak, smoky and earthy notes, more dried herbs, some malt and sugar candy, fairly prominent, fine, slightly astringent tannins, full-bodied with noticeable alcohol, good persistence and depth, light acid bite, juicy and very firm on a very good finish with more noticeable alcohol. The oak is really unnecessary, but the wine is much better than we felt it was a few years ago.
