The trading and champagne house based in Aÿ
in the was founded in 1584 by winemaker Pierre Gosset. He produced at this time mainly still wines. From this time on, it was also produced by the Gosset family. The company remained family-owned for 14 generations and in 2009 celebrated the 425th anniversary of its existence. In 1994, Gosset was acquired by Cointreau, including owners of the Cognac domain Frapin. The family-owned company is managed by Jean Pierre Cointreau.
There are no own vineyards, the grapes are delivered by long-term contracted vintners. They come exclusively from Grand Cru and Premier Cru locations of the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Grande Vallée de la Marne. The grape must have an average classification of 95% (see under Échelle of the crus
). For the cuvées, cellar master Jean Pierre Mareigner relies on fresh and acidified Chardonnay wines and a high percentage of Pinot Noir, which contributes to body and aging. Unlike many other producers is completely on one malolactic fermentation
dispensed with, since a low acid content is deliberately not desired and that is positive for the Feinperligkeit.
The wines store on average five years on the yeast, after the dégorgement
they are stored for at least three months to a year before they go on sale. The standard cuvée is called "Grande Reserve". The Cuvée de Prestige
called "CELEBRIS" are available as Blancs de Blancs, Rosé and Vintage. The high-quality qualities CELEBRIS, Millésimes, Grand Rosé and Grande Réserve are exclusively bottled in the traditional antique bottle, which is a replica of the bottle shape used in the 18th century. Every year, the prestigious CELEBRIS Prize is awarded to restaurants with the best champagne card. Every year, about one million bottles of Gosset champagne are produced.
