The trading and champagne house based in Aÿ in the was founded in 1584 by the winemaker Pierre Gosset. At that time he mainly produced still wines. At that time, two areas fought over the favor of the royal table, namely Aÿ and Beaune in Burgundy, much further south. Eventually Gosset gains the privilege of wine at the table of the French king Henry IV (1553-1610) to serve. When the triumphal march of the champagne began to be produced by the Gosset family. The company remained family-owned for 14 generations and celebrated the 425th anniversary of its existence in 2009. In 1994, Gosset was taken over by Cointreau, including the owner of the cognac domain Frapin. The family-owned company is managed by Jean Pierre Cointreau.

There are no separate vineyards, the grapes are supplied by long-term contract winemakers. They come exclusively from the Grand Cru and Premier Cru locations of the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Grande Vallée de la Marne. The grapes must have an average classification of 95% (see under Échelle des crus ). For the cuvées, cellar master Jean Pierre Mareigner mainly relies on fresh and acidic Chardonnay wines and on a high proportion of Pinot Noir, which brings in body and aging ability. Unlike many other producers, it is completely based on one malolactic fermentation dispensed with, because a low acidity is deliberately not desired and this is positive for the fine pearliness.

The wines have been on the lees for an average of five years, after dégorgement they are stored for at least three months to a year before going on sale. The standard cuvée is called "Grande Reserve". The Cuvée de Prestige “CELEBRIS” is available as Blancs de Blancs, Rosé and Vintage. The high-quality qualities of CELEBRIS, Millésimes, Grand Rosé and Grande Réserve are exclusively bottled in the traditional antique bottle, which is a replica of the bottle shape used in the 18th century. Every year the renowned CELEBRIS Prize is awarded to restaurants with the best champagne menu. About one million bottles of Gosset champagne are produced each year.
