2016 Saint Joseph AOC "Les Granilites", Rhône, France

Firm, deep, at first slightly reductive, then increasingly complex, somewhat bacony, smoky and peppery fragrance of rather dark berries and cherries with clear Provence herb notes, earthy tones, a hint of mushrooms and quite distinct minerality. Tart, cool, still completely undeveloped fruit with smoky, roasted and fleshy to bacon-like nuances, firm, present, yet very fine tannin, lots of peppery spice, dense and lasting on the palate, herbal aromas, has grip, life and stunning freshness, good depth, gains enormously with air, tobacco notes and roasting in the very good, firm, tangy-juicy finish. Must necessarily mature.
