One of the famous six parishes (next to Listrac-Médoc. Margaux. Moulis. Pauillac and Saint-Julien ) within the French area Haut-Médoc, which are appellations of their own and may bear the community name on the bottle label. It is the northernmost municipality and covers around 1,380 hectares of vineyards almost 50 kilometers north of Bordeaux, The area is one of the oldest wine-growing areas in the Médoc and dates back to the 13th century.
