The wines of these establishments count every year to the absolute best of its kind and is almost unrivaled in the top - and that regardless of vintage variations. But the simpler plants are almost invariably excellent. Weaknesses, there are virtually no, and mediocre wines are as good as never before.

The winery is located in the eponymous municipality of Bages in the area Pauillac in the Médoc (Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux). The year of foundation was 1749 when Elisabeth Drouillard, the wife of Irish-born Thomas-Michel Lynch, inherited an estate called "Bourdieu de Batges" from her father. The size of the property expanded to 150 hectares, until finally in 1824 the history of the Lynch family ended and a division into Château Lynch-Moussas and Château Lynch-Bages. The property in question was bought by Jean-Charles Cazes (* 1972) in 1934 and is now managed by his grandson Jean-Michel Cazes. In the 1980s, the dilapidated château and the cellars were rebuilt. Jean-Michel Cazes was founded by his friend Claude Bébéar, the founder of the insurance group AXA, employed as head of the company AXA-Millésimes, founded in 1984, which owns several renowned wineries in Bordeaux, Hungary and Portugal. He held this position until 2001.

In the Bordeaux Classification in 1855 the estate only received fifth place (Cinquième Cru Classé), which was considered much too low even then. The vineyards cover a total of 90 hectares of vineyards, of which 85.5 hectares are planted with red wine and 4.5 hectares with white wine varieties. These are Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Franc (10%), as well as Sauvignon Blanc (40%), Sémillon (40%) and Muscadelle (20%). The extremely long-lived red wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in 50% new barriques. According to many experts, this would earn second place (Deuxième Classé). But it is also called "Mouton of the little man". The second wine up to 2007 was called "Château Haut-Bages-Avérous", from 2008 onwards it is now called "Echo de Lynch-Bages". The branded wine "Michel Lynch" is produced under the AC name Bordeaux. It is named after the founder's brother, who was mayor of Pauillac. The red wine is blended from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the white wine from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes come from the entire Bordeaux region.
