A large part of the wines in the French region Bordeaux is under the comprehensive appellation "Bordeaux" (alcohol content at least 10% vol for red wine, 10.5% vol for white wine) or "Bordeaux Supérieur" (higher alcohol content with at least 10.5% vol for red wine and 11.5% vol for white wine). This applies to all wines that come from the official Bordeaux area, but do not have a defined place name. They must comply with all AC rules regarding grape varieties, yield, vinification etc. according to the area of origin and are also controlled.

The red grape variety comes from France, The name "Little Greenling" refers to the high acid content in the grapes, which are often under-matured due to the long ripening period. Synonyms are Bouton, Carmelin, Herrant, Lambrusquet, Lambrusquet Noir, Verdau, Verdot and Verdot Petit.
