The winery "Franz und Christine Netzl" is located in the municipality of Göttlesbrunn in the Carnuntum wine-growing region of Lower Austria. The family has been growing grapes since 1820. Franz Netzl is considered one of the founders of the red wine boom in this area. He runs the business together with daughter Christina Artner-Netzl. The vineyards cover 27 hectares in the Altenberg, Aubühel, Bärnreiser, Haidacker, Neuberg and Schüttenberg vineyards. They are 70% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, and 30% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner,Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Muskateller and Welschriesling.
The vineyards are cultivated in a near-natural way with no pesticides(herbicides, insecticides, etc.). A complete conversion of production to organic viticulture is underway (2018). During the entire vegetation cycle, a good supply of nutrients is ensured and an ideal combination of light and shade for optimal ripening on the vine is created through appropriate foliage management. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed through selective manual harvesting in the vineyard and renewed checks in the cellar. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks (white wines), in large wooden bar rels or in barriques (red wines).
The flagship of the house is the red wine cuvée "Anna-Christina Bärnreiser" (Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) matured for 18 months in new barriques. Other premium wines are the red wine cuvée "Privat" aged for 30 months in new barriques, the red wine cuvée "Edles Tal" (Zweigelt, Merlot, Syrah) aged for 16 months in used barriques, Rubin Carnuntum Zweigelt and Grüner Veltliner Ried Bärnreiser. The top products are also bottled in magnum bottles. Rosé wine and bottle-fermented sparkling wine are also produced. Around 180,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the winegrowers' associations Rubin Carnuntum Weingüter and Traditionsweingüter Österreich.
