The appellation is after the eponymous capital of the department of Lot in Southwest France named. The vineyards with about 4,500 hectares of vineyards are located on both banks of the River Lot, northwest of Gaillac, The vineyard is one of the oldest and most famous in France. The Celts (Gauls) were already here in the 6th century BC. Chr. Ago. Under Emperor Domitian (51-96) was cultivated here by the Romans wine.
