The appellation is located in the very south of the French wine region Provence on the Mediterranean coast. It is named after the name of the port from which the wines used to be shipped all over the world with a "B" on the barrels. Wine growing here dates back to before the arrival of the Romans in 125 BC. The vineyards cover almost 1,500 hectares of vineyards in eight municipalities. The red wines in particular are among the best in Provence. They are a blend of at least two varieties of Mourvèdre (at least 50%), Grenache and Cinsaut, as well as a maximum of 15% in total or 10% Syrah and Carignan each.
