The appellation is located in the south of the French winegrowing region Provence on the Mediterranean coast. It is named after the name of the port from which the wines were previously shipped with a "B" on the barrels all over the world. Winegrowing dates back to before the arrival of the Romans in 125 BC. The vineyards cover nearly 1,500 hectares of vineyards in eight municipalities. Red wines in particular are among the best in Provence. They are a blend of at least two varieties of Mourvèdre (at least 50%), Grenache and Cinsaut, as well as a maximum of 15% in total or each 10% Syrah and Carignan blended.
