The AOC area is an enclave within the appellation Anjou on the right bank of the Loire in the department of Maine-et-Loire. The already of the Celts founded eponymous community was founded by the Romans in 50 BC. According to the soap herbs growing there, it is called "Saponaria", from which the present name derives. Already at the moment Napoleon (1769-1821), the wine was famous, but was then expanded sweetly.
