The winery is located in the municipality Montrachet
(Puligny-Montrachet) in the Côte de Beaune area, the southern part of the Cote d'Or
in french Burgundy
, It was founded by Joseph Leflaive (1870-1953); whose eldest son Vincent Leflaive (+1993) then continued it. After retiring from business, daughter Anne-Claude and nephew Olivier Leflaive took over the management. Three years later, Olivier founded a wine shop and left. The vineyards cover 22 hectares of vineyards with parts in the Premiers Crus Les Clavoillons, Les Combettes, Les Folatières and Les Pucelles, as well as the Grands Crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Le Montrachet. Already in the 1990s, Anne Claude warned of the destructive exploitation of the soil and was one of the first to set up in Burgundy and France Biodynamic viticulture
