Area classified as Cru (peak appellation) in the northern section of the Rhone on the right bank. It stretches for 50 kilometers from Condrieu in the north to Saint-Péray in the south. The vineyards cover around 900 hectares of vineyards in 26 municipalities in the two departments Ardèche and Loire. The center of Saint-Joseph is the city of Tournon, on the banks of the Rhone opposite the Hermitage mountain. Wine was valued by the French kings as early as the 16th century.
