2004 Toscana IGT Merlot "Galatrona", Tuscany, Italy

Preserved and partly dried black berries on the nose, dried herbs, fried dark meat, roasted notes, spicy oak. Very soft, creamy fruit on the palate, roasted oak, cocoa, some cola and licorice, slightly sandy tannins, cool smoky notes in the background, very full-bodied, fiarly persistent, slightly indistinct contours, sot and quite a warm style, prominent alcohol, roasted notes and spicy oak on a juicy finish. Has held up much better than initially anticipated.

Editor note: Fairly sharp nose with light medicinal notes, candied and preserved cherries, red berries and peppers. Fairly light-bodied and cool on the palate, slightly gree berry fruit, cocoa and cedar, oak, has some life, but not a lot of substance, slightly dusty on an otherwise attractive finish.
