Editor note: Clear nose, light herbaceous and delicate floral notes, ripe citrus and stone fruit, prominent tart mineral notes, waxy traces, touch of sugar candy. Firm, juicy fruit on the palate, herbaceous and light floral aromas, fairly prominent, elegant acidity, ripe tannins provide firm grip, intense mineral notes, good depth, persistent, peppery traces, hint of red berries, firm, juicy and gripping on the finish. In excellent condition, significantly better than the first sample.

Editor note: Firm nose, vegetal and herbaceous notes, particularly reminiscent of thyme, fairly cool yellow fruit, hint of resin, prominent mineral notes. Fairly firm and fairly dry fruit on the palate, herbaceous, vegetal and some more resiny notes, fairly prominent acidity, light lemony notes, light floral aromas, yeasty and mineral notes in the background, veryslightly muted, good depth, still young, very good firm finish.

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
