2006 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany, Italy

Quite developed, tart, dark, fleshy and somewhat tarry aroma of predominantly black berries with a hint of plums and pickled cherries, Mediterranean herbs, moderate barrel tones and a little soya and pepper. Firm, juicy, dense, ripe fruit, present, fine sandy, ripe tannin, some liquorice and clearly ethereal spice on the palate, reminiscent of eucalyptus and pepper, persistent, has power, but also a certain acid bite, some nougat in the background, good depth, very good finish. Slightly past its prime, which is why it diminishes a little with air, but still in excellent form.

Editor note: Hernaceous nose, preserved and partly dried red and black berries, delicate hint of tobacco, earthy and mineral notes in the background. Clear, polished, tart fruit on the palate, delicate spicy oak, some sugar candy and vegetal notes, fine, youthful tannins, light acid bite, earthy and mineral notes in the background, persistent, very full-bodied, good depth, also polished with cool elements, still undeveloped, made in a traditional style, very lively, surprisingly elegant considering its full body, very good long finish.
