1998 Langhe DOC Sperss, Piedmont, Italy

Deep and quite firm, multi-layered, somewhat warm aroma of predominantly red berries with leathery, nutty, earthy and spicy notes, some tar and tobacco. Ripe, somewhat developed, tart fruit, nutty, leathery and peppery aromas, some bite and present, fine sandy tannin, dense and persistent on the palate, good depth, nutty tones, a touch of tar and cedary nuances, a little dried-floral, lots of grip, has power and warmth, very good to long, firm, complex finish.
