The winery in the Hungarian region Eger was founded in 1993 by the Hungarian oenologist Tibor Gál (1958-2005) when he returned home after a long stay in Italy. Marchese Nicolo Incisa della Rochetta, the producer of the Sassicaia, as well as Burkard Bovensiepen, the owner of Alpina-BMW. The company name “GIA” resulted from Gál, Incisa and Alpina. In 2002, after Alpina left the US company Kobrand Corporation (partner in one of the largest US wine trading companies). Gál had his reputation as a top oenologist and consultant acquired in Friuli, Piedmont and especially in Tuscany, where he worked in the winery Ornellaia worked as a cellar master for several years. He was also instrumental in building the winery Capaia in South Africa, in which he held a small stake. Here he died in a car accident in February 2005. Tibor Gál was described by a wine magazine as a "flying Hungarian wine magician".

When building his winery, he set himself the goal of reviving the winegrowing tradition in Eger and combining it with the latest technologies and processes in winemaking. One focus of his work was the creation of an Egri Bikavér (Erlauer bull's blood ) new style plus classification as the first origin-protected wine of Hungary. He experimented with different Pinot Noir clones Burgundy and had Pajados plant three hectares with a high stock density of 10,520 vines / hectare. Gál also played a leading role in the development of the Hungarian Wine Act 2004. After his tragic death, it became a common goal of the family, colleagues and friends to preserve his professional and intellectual heritage. The business is run by his wife Ibolya and his sons Tibor jun. and Zsombor continued.

The extensive cellars consist of 15 areas connected by corridors. This is shown on the bottle label in the form of a formal labyrinth. The total property covers around 90 hectares, of which 51.5 hectares are planted with vines in, for example, the Gröber, Pajados and Síkhegy locations. These were only planted after extensive analyzes taking into account the climate, rainfall, number of hours of sun and soil conditions. The red wine varieties are 70% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon. kadarka, Kékfrankos ( ) Merlot. Pinot Noir and Syrah, as well as 30% white wine varieties Chardonnay. Leányka (Girl cluster) and Viognier cultured. In addition, grapes are also purchased from contract winemakers.
