The "Hessische Staatsweingüter GmbH Kloster Eberbach" with headquarters in the former Cistercian abbey Eberbach in the German growing region Rheingau is the largest winery in Germany with around 220 hectares of vineyards. The majority of the vineyards date back to the 12th century when the monastery was owned Cistercian here the famous monastery Eberbach founded. In the heyday of the abbey, its possessions covered almost 10,000 hectares, stretching from Worms to Cologne. This also included areas on Bergstrasse, which were managed through a manor directly under the Eberbach monastery. In 1803 it was under Napoleon (1769-1821) secularized the monastery property. Hessian State Wineries - Steinbergkeller near Hattenheim (Rheingau)
