Editor note: Nutty and earthy notes on the nose, predominantly red berries, hint of tobacco, dried vegetal notes, a few black berries, dried floral and mineral notes. Ripe fruit on the palate, prominent nutty oak, hint of tobacco, fine youthful tannins, light acid bite, medium body, some persistence, sweetish and creamy, salty mineral notes, some peppery spice, dried vegetal and herbaceous notes, some cocoa and buttery traces on a good to very good finish.
Best to drink: 2019-2025+

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
