Editor note: Translate to English Ziemlich fester, holzwürziger, etwas nussiger und tabakiger Duft nach reifen, teils angetrockneten und eingemachten schwarzen Beeren mit gewürzigen und zedrigen Aromen, etwas Trockenkräutern, getrockneten Pilzen und erdigen Noten. Sehr kräftig im Mund, hochreife, leicht kompottige Frucht mit süßlicher Holzwürze, schokoladig am Gaumen, etwas Kaffeesatz und Lebkuchenwürze, mürb-sandiges Tannin, nachhaltig und warm am Gaumen, viel Fett, aber auch etwas Biss, kühlende Mineralik und Kräuternuancen im Hintergrund, ein wenig Eiskonfekt, gewisse Tiefe, sehr guter Abgang.

The wine region is in the south Hungary close to the border too Croatia and is named after the city of the same name (until 1999 the area was called Villány-Siklós). The vineyards cover around 2,300 hectares of vineyards. Under a continental climate with Mediterranean influences, with long, hot summers and cold winters, the vines grow on soils that are mainly limestone and dolomite with loess and loam layers. Around the city of Villány it is mainly the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc, Kékfrankos ( Blaufränkisch ), Kék Portugizi ( Blue Portuguese )...

The red grape variety comes from France, The name is probably from the French word for blackbird (merle) because these birds like to snack on the very sweet berries when fully ripe. The name can also be an allusion to the black-blue color of the berries similar to the bird. There are over 60 Synonyms which attest to the worldwide spread. The most important are Alicante Noir, Bigney, Black Alicante, Blauer Merlot, Bordò, Crabutet, Crabutet Noir, Hebigney, Médoc Noir, Merlau, Merlot Black, Merlot Blau, Merlot Crni, Merlot Nero, Merlot Noir, Merlott, Merlou, Picard, Pikard, Plant Médoc, Sémillon Rouge, Vidal and Vitraille.
