2005 Mayschoss Mönchberg Spätburgunder, Ahr, Germany

Woody, spicy and slightly mineral scent of ripe, partly dried red berries and some plums with smoky and roasted notes. Smoky and roasted spicy oak on the palate, red fruit behind, fine, astringent tannins, light acid bite, medium substance, cool, almost salty mineral notes, not particularly deep, tidy finish with a prominent oak. Would be much more charming without the wood.
