2014 Rech Herrenberg Spätburgunder, Ahr, Germany

Earthy notes and light nutty oak on the nose, red berries, prominent tobacco notes, mushrooms, spicy traces, hint of caraway seed, some black berries with aeration. Tart, fairly light-bodied, elegant, juicy fruit on the palate, still undeveloped, fine sandy tannins, still very slightly brittle, noticeable acid bite, earthy notes, oak and some tobacco, good persistence, noticeable salty notes, quite a firm structure, some depth, very good tart finish with light smoky and prominent mienral notes, opens up briefly with aeration, then closes down again completely, leaving only slightly brittle oaky notes. Needs time to develop.
