Editor note: Fairly tart nose, hint of bacon, ripe red and some black berries, earthy and dried vegetal notes, light nutty oak and tarry traces. Firm, ripe, partly preserved fruit on the palate, smoky, toasted oak, herbs and spices, tarry traces again, hint of cocoa in the background, fairly well integrated, fine sandy tannins, good substance and persistence, some depth, full body, slightly noticeable warm alcohol, more fairly dark, preserved notes on a very good, juicy finish.
Best to drink: 2020-2026+

The winegrowing area named after a tributary of the Rhine is located in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany. The Ahr has its source in the Eifel and flows south of Bonn into the Rhine. The vineyards cover 563 hectares of vineyards on south-facing steep slopes in the lower and middle part of the deeply incised river valley over a length of about 25 kilometres. In 2014, a significant decision was made in the Ahr valley in favour of ecologically sound, sustainable viticulture.
