The „Josef Högl” estate is located in the commune of Viessling (Spitz a. D.) in the Spitzer Graben in the Wachau wine-growing region in Lower Austria. The vineyard area, most of which is terraced, totals six hectares, with holdings in the Burgberg, Bruck, Mitterfeld, Schön, Steinertal and Wandl sites. Sustainable, integrated vineyard practices are implemented. Cover crops on the boundaries are intended to prevent erosion. Only white grape varieties are planted. They are Riesling and Grüner Veltliner (40% each), as well as smaller quantities of Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc and Neuburger. In addition, some vineyard areas have been leased in Dürnstein and Loiben, these are planted with Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Chardonnay. The premium wines include, for example, the Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Steinertal, Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Schön, Riesling Smaragd Bruck and Gelber Muskateller Federspiel. When vintage conditions permit, sweet botrstis dessert wines such as Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are produced. Spirits are also produced. The estate is a member of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus association.
