The winery above the municipality Maierhofen is located near Fürstenfeld in the winegrowing area Volcano country Styria
(Austria). The castle, newly built according to old models, was opened in 2006. It includes a wine culture site under the motto "stage for art, culture and wine". Furthermore, it is also a hostel of the European Wine Knights, which belongs to Koarl Thaller. A tavern is connected. The business is run by "Koarl" (Karl) and Maria Thaller, who are already actively supported by their children. The newcomer Koarl Thaller graduated from the winegrowing school Silberberg
and passed the master's examination in viticulture and wine-growing. The Styrian red wine pioneer first produced a Shiraz in Styria in 1993.
The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards in the Rieder Jullerltal, Marienberg, Steinfeld and rose garden. They are (astonishing for Styrian proportions) to 80% with the red varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, St. Laurent and Shiraz, and planted to 20% with the white varieties Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc. Premium wines are the two red wine cuvées "Rochus" (Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and "Moarhof" (Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon), as well as the white wines Welschriesling and Herrnberg Classic. The castle actor Peter Simonischek presented in 2010 the red wine cuvée "Mythos". The winery publishes the house paper "Thallers Flaschenpost".
