The winery is located in the municipality of Girlan (Cornaiano) near Bolzano in the Italian wine-growing region of
South Tyrol (
Trentino-Alto Adige). It was founded in 1923 with 23 members at that time. The wooden barrel cellar dates back to the 13th century. Today, 230 members cultivate a total of 230 hectares of vineyards in numerous locations in the Überetsch at an altitude of 400 to 550 metres above sea level on moraine deposits rich in minerals from the ice age. As one of the first wineries in South Tyrol, the company introduced quality-based payment for winegrowers in 1950. Helmut Meraner is the managing director and chairman, Gerhard Kofler is the cellar master
White wine varieties Weißburgunder, Chardonnay, Grauburgunder, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Müller-Thurgau, as well as the red wine varieties Blauburgunder, Lagrein, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Vernatsch are cultivated and processed. The wines are pressed according to traditional methods, fermented cool and then stored and aged in large oak barrels, barriques or stainless steel tanks. They are marketed in the three lines Classic Wines, Vineyard Wines and Selection Wines. The wide range of products includes various wines from the DOC areas of
St. Magdalener and South Tyrol. Around one million bottles of wine are produced annually. In 1998, the
H. Lun winery was taken over, but continues to operate independently.
