The winery is located in the village Girlan (Cornaiano) near Bolzano in the Italian winegrowing area South-Tirol
(Region Trentino-Alto Adige
). It was founded in 1923 with then 23 members. The wooden barrel cellar dates back to the 13th century. Today 230 members manage a total of 230 hectares of vineyards in numerous locations of the Überetsch in 400 to 550 meters above sea level on mineral-rich glacial moraine deposits. As one of the first wineries in South Tyrol, the company introduced in 1950 the quality-dependent payment of winegrowers. Helmut Meraner is responsible as managing director and chairman, and the cellar master is Gerhard Kofler.
There are white varieties Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Müller-Thurgau, and the red varieties Blauburgunder, Lagrein, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Vernatsch cultivated and processed. The wines are pressed according to traditional methods, cold fermented and then stored in large oak barrels, barriques or stainless steel tanks and expanded. They are marketed in the three lines Classic Wines, Layer Wines and Selection Wines. The large product range includes, among other things, various wines of the DOC areas St. Magdalener
and South Tyrol
