The Greek Volcanic island (also Lemnos or Limnio) with almost 480 km² is in the north Aegean between the peninsula Athos in the northwest and mainland Asia Minor in the east. According to Greek mythology, the limping Hephaestus (Roman Vulcanus), the Greek god of fire and smithy, lived here.
